Hello Cleveland Community! My name is JoAnne O’Connell, I’m honored to be your Community School Coordinator. Cleveland Middle School is known for high quality programs, exceptional teachers, a superior learning environments, and strong parental and community support. At Cleveland, our Community School strategy is on the integration of academics, health and social services, with youth, family, and community engagement development, as a strategy to improve student learning and facilitate stronger families and healthier communities.
As the Community School Coordinator, I plan to continue the great efforts that Cleveland has already put in place for the success of the WHOLE child. The foundation and leadership at Cleveland is STRONG! I’ll
continue to create, strengthen, and maintain the bridge between the school and community by facilitating the growth of a strong, diverse Community School Council. If you're interested in joining our council, please send me an email at joanne.oconnell@aps.edu. Cleveland Community School Council’s goal is to provide leadership for the collaborative process and development of a continuum of services for children, families and community members within our schools neighborhood. I will team up with many
different areas.
Some of these areas include:
- Parent/Family and Community Engagement
- Youth Development
Strategic Alignments: Deepening Partnership in the following areas:
- Health
- Mental Health

At Cleveland Community School, we act as a location where those partnerships may be utilized. As we grow on our strengths, Cleveland Community School builds partnerships between the school and other community resources. This creates the community and school leverage their shared physical and human assets to help kids succeed.
At Cleveland Community School we provided a host of opportunities and supports built-in that give students and parents all the tools they need to learn and grow.
