Cleveland Middle School Dress Code

Cleveland Middle School’s dress code is designed to promote a positive, safe, and healthy environment. Cleveland’s dress code prohibits student dress that may present a health or safety hazard, violate municipal or state law, or present a potential disruption to the learning environment Clothing or accessories which advertise, display or promote any drug, including alcohol or tobacco, sexual activity, violence, disrespect and/or show bigotry towards any group is prohibited.

All clothing

● May not contain words or slogans except for names of schools or sports. For example: school name or logo (Cleveland, UNM or LOBOS) is acceptable

● May contain small brand names or logos.

● May be solid or include patterns such as florals, polka dots, or stripes.

● May not contain sheer material or cut outs.

● Should fit properly. No overly tight or baggy clothing. All shirts, tops, blouses must meet the following criteria ● May not show the midriff (stomach), back, chest or shoulders.

● Must have sleeves that cover the shoulders. No tank tops or muscle shirts.

● Must be long enough to be tucked in. They do not need to be tucked in but must be long enough to be tucked in.

All pants, shorts, dresses, and skirts must meet the following criteria:

● Length: Must be mid-thigh, at a minimum.

● Must be worn at the waist.

● Any holes or tears in pants must be below your mid-thigh or layered over additional fabric under the holes or tears.


● Shoes must be worn at all times, no bare feet or slippers.

● No underwear or other undergarments may be exposed at any time.

● Hats, sunglasses, and caps are not to be worn in the school building.

● No pajamas, slippers, blankets or other sleepwear.

● No bandanas allowed.

● No spiked jewelry, belts or chains.

● Belts - length must be appropriate and not hang from the waist.

PE Uniforms (Boys & Girls) 

  • Plain White t-shirts and black shorts or CMS PE uniform 
  • If warm-ups are necessary, they must be plain black and/or white 
  • CMS PE uniforms are available for $20
